Your best interests
Our licensee requires its brokers to put your finance needs above those of anyone else. We're required to be transparent about products, your options, applicable fees and charges, and any conflicts of interest, and to communicate in simple, easy-to-understand language. We're committed to making sure the loan we help you with meets your needs and requirements and is in your best interests at the time we assist you.
About this Credit Guide
This guide contains important information about us, the services we provide and the activities of the credit representative operating under our credit licence. It also covers the fees and charges you may pay, the commissions we may receive, the commissions we may pay to third parties for introducing business, and what to do if you have a complaint or dispute.
We're required to give you this guide as soon as practicable after it becomes apparent that we're likely to provide credit assistance to you. We provide "credit assistance" when we:
- suggest or assist you in applying for a particular loan with a particular lender;
- suggest or assist you in applying for an increase to an existing loan with a particular lender; or
- recommend that you remain in an existing loan contract.
Preliminary assessment
Before we provide credit assistance, we must assess whether the loan is "unsuitable". Based on the information you give us, a loan is unsuitable if:
- you will be unable to repay the proposed loan, or will only be able to repay it with substantial hardship; or
- the proposed loan does not meet your requirements and objectives.
We document our findings in a Preliminary Assessment, which sets out your requirements and objectives, your financial and relevant personal situation, and your ability to repay the proposed loan. We must also take reasonable steps to verify the information you give us. That may include asking for copies of documents that show your financial situation (in some cases we may need to see originals) and contacting third parties to help verify what you've told us.
Getting a copy. If we provide you with credit assistance, you can ask for a copy of your Preliminary Assessment at any time for up to 7 years. There's no charge. We must give it to you:
- as soon as possible, if you ask before the Credit Day;
- within 7 business days of your request, if you ask up to 2 years after the Credit Day; and
- within 21 business days of your request, if you ask between 2 and 7 years after the Credit Day.
The Credit Day is the date the loan is settled or the loan amount is increased.
Fees and charges you may pay
We may charge a fee for providing credit assistance. If one applies, the details will be set out in a Credit Quote that we give you before we submit your loan application.
You may also have to pay other fees and charges, such as application fees, valuation costs and other fees, to the lender or to other parties. Check the loan contract documents for the details.
How we get paid
Our aggregator receives commission from lenders and then pays us commission on loan contracts, such as home and investment property loans.
- Upfront commission is paid by lenders on settled (drawn-down) loans. It's calculated as a percentage of the loan amount and is usually paid after settlement.
- Trail commission is paid by lenders on settled loans. It's calculated monthly on the outstanding loan balance and paid in arrears.
These commissions are paid by lenders. They're not payable by you. Details of the commission we'll receive are included in the Summary of Requirements and Credit Proposal document that we give you when we provide credit assistance.
From time to time we may also receive a non-commission benefit, such as training, professional development, entertainment, a gift, conference attendance, sponsorship, or entry into a competition run by a lender or our aggregator, at no extra cost to you. These arrangements are temporary, and when they happen and how much they're worth is often not readily ascertainable. If they're apparent as a result of assisting you, we'll disclose them to you. We hold and maintain an entertainment and hospitality register, and a copy can be provided on request.
Other people we deal with
Our aggregator. We have approval to use credit providers and their lending products through our aggregator, Connective Broker Services Pty Ltd (ABN 77 161 731 111), Credit Representative 437202, authorised under Australian Credit Licence 389328. The aggregator charges us a fee depending on our contract arrangements, made up of:
- a share of the commission paid by the particular lender;
- a membership fee for our business; and
- a monthly fee for each of our accredited loan writers.
Commissions paid by Connective's lender panel are transparent and do not influence the broker's or the consumer's choice.
Referrers and referral fees. We get referrals from a range of sources, including accountants, financial planners, real estate agents and other people. If you were introduced or referred to us, we may pay the referrer a commission or a fee. Details of any commission or fee paid to a referrer will be included in the Summary of Requirements and Credit Proposal document.
Our lender panel. We're authorised to engage in credit activities and to help you obtain a loan from a panel of lenders through Connective. You can see the panel at connective.com.au/lender-panel.
Complaints and disputes
We're committed to giving you the best possible service, but we understand there may be times when you're not satisfied. If that happens, please tell us, verbally or in writing, with the exact details of your complaint, so we can work towards a prompt and fair resolution. Our complaints page explains how.
If we can't reach a satisfactory resolution, you can make a complaint in writing to the licence holder, Connective Credit Services Pty Ltd. Complaints about a credit representative operating under the licence are handled efficiently, in a timely way and in accordance with ASIC's internal dispute resolution (IDR) requirements.
